Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, May 3: On the Pretext of tourism, public parks in and outside Srinagar district and elsewhere have became hub of illegal activities, like puffing charas, drugs, gambling, and much more, while as visitors find it inconvenient and embarrassing because of the behaviour of the social renegades and miscreants. However the concerned authority seems in deep slumbers who are acting like mere spectators instead of controlling the social ills.
Sources told Early Times that, the public parks have become a hub of immoral activities and we have been seeing this for last several months and this all is ignored by one and all giving the pretext of tourism.
Visiting the parks with their families is embarrassing because of the behaviour of couples and other social miscreants, said sources.
Local resident of Kathidarwaza Adil Ahmad said, "The immoral activities were continuing in these parks, nut nobody dares to raise the voice against the concerned authorities and social renegades.
People from areas like Nowhatta, Makhdoom Sahib,Hawal, Bohrikadal Srinagar are all on fire saying there are mohalla's like Ashraf Khan, Mum Khan, Hathi Khan and Kathi Darwaz, residents whose residents create problems. "The park has become a den of immoral activities with people puffing cannabis there during day-time and consuming liquor in the evenings, they added. Amid police inaction against the miscreants indulging in daylight waywardness" in and around Badamwari, the residents have urged the state government to "sensitize the police about the deteriorating situation before it gets out of hands."
Concerned official of Badamvari Parks on anonymity conditions told Early Times that, it has become necessary to keep an eye on the parks for maintaining healthy social environment. Immoral activities in parks have become a cause of concern.
We are not saying that all young couples who go to parks are irresponsible, but many just do not behave decently in public places like parks, said official.
A senior police official told Early Times, we often receive complaints from senior citizens and various organizations regarding immoral activities going on in the city's parks. It has become necessary to carry out surprise checks at these spots as common people.
The team will be particularly alert in the evenings it will also conduct surprise raids at parks known to be frequented by the love birds, drug paddlers, and other anti social elements, official added.
