| Geelani continues to roam free, Hurriyat dares Govt to arrest him | | We are hopeful that Mufti will act: BJP | | Asif Iqbal Naik

Jammu, May 3: Three days after Pakistani flags were waved during a rallly by Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani in Tral, the J&K government has failed to arrest him.
The Huriyat termed the statement of Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed that he will take action against Geelani as his 'frustration' and added that raising Pakistani flag is not a new thing in Kashmir. "Waving of Pakistani flags in Kashmir has showed the affection of youths towards Pakistan," the Hurriyat leader said.
The government on Saturday said that it will not allow Geelani's "provocative speeches which lead to serious law and order problems in the Valley" and assured action against Geelani for his pro-Pakistan rally at Tral on Friday.
"The government feels that whenever Geelani is allowed to address a gathering at any place, it is followed by a provocative speeches and stone pelting, leading to serious law and order problem. We will not allow it to happen.
We will not allow him to disturb peaceful atmosphere of Jammu and Kashmir.
If he continues his anti-national speeches we will put him behind the bars," said a senior BJP minister. He said the government won't allow "antics of one person to result in law and order disturbances, beside causing miseries and sufferings to general masses and adversely affecting education of children and trade of business fraternity."
Talking to Early Times, BJP spokesperson Sunil Sethi said the party has demanded immediate arrest of Geelani for his anti-India and pro-Pak rally at Tral.
"Hurriyat leader Masarat Alam was re-arrested on the same charges. How can law be different for Geelani who made a similar crime," asked Sethi. He said that Geelani in fact moved further by spreading venom against India and also interfered in religious matter of the Hindus. He said that Geelani's statement on Amarnath Yatra was communally motivated and will lead to communal flareup not only in the state, but in entire country.
Sethi said he is hopeful that Mufti will act against Geelani and will jail him for holding anti-India and pro-Pak rally.
When asked why they did not arrest Geelani, the BJP spokesperson said, "This is not the decision which has to be taken by the BJP. This is the decision to be taken by the government and the concerned ministry. We are hopeful, rather assured, that the government will act and arrest him."
"This is the case of violation of law and he (Geelani) should be put behind the bars like the way government did in case of Masarat Alam," said Sethi.
Meanwhile, several people also demanded immediate arrest of Geelani and urged the government to act tough against anti-national elements like Geelani rather than offering cosmetic and lip services.
"Why they are not arresting him," asked Sanjay Kumar. He said that like National Conference, PDP is also giving space to separatists which helps them to flourish anti-India propaganda in Jammu and Kashmir.
Another youth said that allowing Geelani to roam free is detrimental to peace and tranquility of Jammu and Kashmir. |
