New Delhi, May 5: Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on Tuesday said that there has been no incident of infiltration by Chinese forces into Indian territory for the past three years, though transgressions takes place by armies of both countries while undertaking patrols
Replying to question in the Rajya Sabha today he said that there was no commonly delineated Line of Actual Control (LAC) between the two countries. He further stated that India takes up any violation by Chinese forces along the LAC with Beijing through established mechanisms including border personnel meetings, flag meetings and Working Mechanism on Consultation and Coordination on India-China Border Affairs.
Parrikar also informed the House that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had raised concerns about the incidents during Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to India in September 2014, with both leaders agreeing that peace and tranquillity in the border region constitutes an 'essential foundation' for mutual trust and confidence.
The minister further noted that Indian territory under the occupation by China in Jammu and Kashmir is approximately 38,000 square kilometres, while the so-called China-Pakistan 'Boundary Agreement' saw Islamabad illegally ceding approximately 5,180 sq kms of Indian territory in Pakistan occupied Kashmir to China.
Parrikar also said that India and China have appointed special representatives to work out the framework for a boundary settlement at the earliest.
