Jammu, May 5: On the reopening of the Darbar in summer capital today, veteran politician and DPN president Ghulam Hassan Mir took a dig at the PDP-BJP government contending observing of bandh in both the regions on closing and opening day of the offices reflects increasing disenchantment of people towards the functioning of the coalition as also governance deficit on key issues of the state.
"First Jammu observed complete bandh when offices closed on April 24 and today the same pattern of discontent, disappointment and anger reflected in Srinagar while various bodies chose to observe bandh when the offices reopened ….this can not be seen as mere coincidence or symbolic gestures …", said Mir while saying the government has failed to live up to its own commitments , leave alone fulfilling expectations of people on various issues confronting them. Mir, who once was a close confidante of Muftis and senior most leader of the party during PDP-Congress regime, took a jibe particularly at the PDP leadership and said people are fast losing confidence in the party and the way they are showing their anger and resentment through agitations and protests speaks volumes that the policies of the coalition government are not acceptable to them.
"Though two months of time is certainly not sufficient to judge the performance of the government but there are ample indications in both the regions that people are not happy with the functioning of the government. Choosing not to name any leader, ex minister Mir while speaking to ET said this government has started showing in many ways that it is not worried for the common and poor people instead it is concerned for rich and affluent and taking care of the interests of those associated with corporate bodies. This message has gone against BJP in Jammu and PDP in Kashmir which once used to enjoy popularity of common masses. Mir further said both the alliance partners should read the writing on the wall that by resorting to frequent hartals, bandhs and protests people are showing they have no confidence in this coalition. It is time to decipher this hard yet virtual message for the government before its credibility gets further dent, the DPN president said.
Pertinently, the trade bodies of Valley observed bandh today against the inordinate delay in compensation to the flood-affected traders. Various trade bodies including Valley Traders and Manufacturers Federation joined the strike on the first day of the reopening of the offices to press home their grievances with echelons of power. Traders bodies are particularly unhappy with the manner Finance Minister Dr Hasseb Drabu has not fulfilled assurances made during meetings held in recent past.
