GoI succumbs, says no separate townships for KPs in Kashmir

Srinagar, May 5: Minutes after union government announced that there is no policy with the union government to create separate zones within Kashmir for migrant Kashmir Pandits (KPs), protesting KPs said that Bhartiya Janata Party cannot compel KPs to live as per their wish to gain Political points for themselves.
Reacting sharply on the announcement of union government in Lok Sabha today in which Minister of State for Home, Haribhai Parathibhai Chowdhary while replying to a question put forward by nine member of Parliament's (MPs) whether there is any proposal to create separate zones for KPS in Kashmir, said that 'there is no proposal to create separate zones exclusively for the KPs in the state of Jammu and Kashmir'.
KPs accused the of BJP playing with theior sentiments said BJP is more concerned about the tourist season in Kashmir rather than rehabilitation of the migrant pandits. President Kashmiri Pandits Sangarsh Samiti (KPSS) Sanjay Tikoo, while talking to early times said BJP created chaos over the issue for its political gains. "This seems now official announcement of BJP and I must tell you this decision has been taken under pressure. Dr Arjan Nath,Chairmain Premnath Bhat Memorial Trust said that 'BJP cannot compel us to dance on their tunes. We have to live in Kashmir, so only we can decided how we want to live, BJP must check what their Home Minister, Rajnath Singh said time and again and now what their MOS has said in Lok Sabha today.
Political parties after assuming power do change their stands. He also said be it BJP or Congress in centre, KPs will continue to struggle for their rights and will not bow down before any political party untill the goal of separate homeland is achieved.
Pertinently after ruling out any proposal to establish separate Zones for KPs in Jammu and Kashmir, Minister of State for Home, Haribhai Parathibhai Chowdhary informed Lok Sabha that KPs are being paid an enhanced cash relief from Rs 1,650 to Rs 2,550 per head from May 1 as ceiling for cash relief per family was enhanced from Rs 6,600 to Rs 10,000 and this is being paid to nearly 21,700 of the 62,000 families who are registered migrants.
Through a written reply, Minister also informed that measures have been taken over the years by way of financial assistance Under the Prime Minister's package of 2004 and as many as 5242 two-room tenements have been constructed in Jammu at four locations which have been allotted to the migrants, besides 200 flats have been constructed in Budgam which have been allotted on a sharing basis to those migrants who have joined the government services in the area.
He added that in 2008, government announced Rs 1618.40 crore package for return and rehabilitation of KPS under this scheme in which 1553 migrant youths have been provided jobs and one family has availed the benefit of Rs 7.5 lakh for construction of house as well.
with today's announcement, demand of Separate Homeland issue rests the controversy in Kashmir that union government is planning to establish composite townships for KPs in Kashmir and in this regard land has also been earmarked at three places in Kashmir.
