Early Times Report

JAMMU, May 23 : The famed Natrang theatre group of Jammu headed by world famous maestro of Indian theatre Balwant Thakur presented two plays at KC Sports Club on May 21st and 22nd to the audience of students and teachers of KC Public School. 'The Man Who Married a Dumb Wife' in Hindi was performed on May 21 with the younger children of primary and middle wing of the school forming the audience. It was a hilarious drama revolving around a man who, irked by garrulous and voluble prospective brides, readily agrees to marry a dumb girl.
The choice leads him into utter frustration after some time when he realizes that his dumb wife is an automaton with no feelings and emotions. Hoping to mend the fences, he gets her treated for her dumbness and ends up facing a volcanically disruptive and angry woman giving unbridled expression to her own pent up frustrations when her speech is successfully restored. The play with its humorous theme and with some outstanding performances from actors in comic roles amused the young audience immensely. The second play based on Charles Dickens' 'The Great Expectations' was performed on May 22nd in front of senior students of KC Public School. Focusing on a touching and sensitive aspect of the main protagonist's life, this play in English was a thoroughly professional affair with its Director Ms Arushi Thakur in the lead female role.
All other characters including those representing the younger and older Pip were well portrayed by the talented actors of the theatre group. Balwant Thakur was personally present on the occasion. The performances acted as curtain-raisers for the proposed Summer Workshop in theatre to be conducted at KC Sports Club under the supervision of Arushi Thakur of the Natrang group from June 1st onwards. The general activity halls on the ground floor of the Club are ideally suited for this kind of activity and people who enroll for the Summer Camp in theatre would be given intensive training culminating into a stage production at the end of the course.
