Early Times Report
Jammu, May 23: After handing over the inquiry of the case to DySP level officer and registration of an FIR in connection with scholarship scam which surfaced at Baba Ghulam Shah Badsah University Rajouri, Police on Saturday said that guilty won’t be spared.
While talking to “Early Times” SSP Rajouri Dr Hasseb Mughal said, “Keeping in view the sensitivity of the case, the investigation pertaining to scholarship scam in Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University in Rajouri has been handed over to Dy SP level officer for speedy and effective probe.” Earlier the investigation of the case was being conducted by PSI Mukesh Kumar.
Dr Haseeb Mughal said that the issue came into the notice of police after the J&K bank officials approached the police suspecting a fraud. “On the basis of the bank complaint, police started an investigation and unearthed the scam.” He said police have already registered an FIR No. 46/ 2015 under Sections 420, 467, 468, 471, 409 and 109 RPC at police station Darhal.
He said that all the guilty persons involved in the case would be booked and stern action under law would be taken against them. He said the efforts are on to trace the culprits and close the case on merit.
He added that police would scrutinize the records of bank and university. He said that university authorities have also been asked to provide the record and said that police would also record the statements of students who were allegedly duped.
Pertinently, police party led by SDPO Thanamandi Iftakar Talib yesterday seized the record from the J&K Bank branch Darhal in connection with the alleged scholarship fraud of the students of BGSBU university in Rajouri. The police action came after some inputs were received by the police from the University students and complaint was filed by the Bank Manager, Raiki main branch of J&K Bank Darhal.
During preliminary investigation involvement of a JK Bank clerk Ajaz Malik was established, who with the help of some staffers from BGSBU University committed this fraud of worth lakhs of rupees, however police have launched a manhunt to arrest the accuse, but no arrest was made till the last reports came-in. Some employees of the BGSBU are also likely to be arrested.
As per police it has been found that some fraudulent accounts were opened by some people in this branch and when the scholarship cheques from the SWD or Higher Education Department were issued to the SC and ST students, these people used to divert them in those accounts and by doing this hundreds of ST/ SC students have been cheated and deprived of the scholarship by these fraudsters.
