Jammu, May 23: The Daily Wagers and Casual Laborers working in the Public Health Engineering Department (PHE), who were on strike for the past two days under the banner of All Jammu and Kashmir PHE ITI trained and CP workers Association , called off their strike after assurances by the Minister that they will be regularized in a phased manner. Mohammad Sajad Ganai ,senior leader of the Association who meet Minister along with his state President Tanveer Ahmed told that they held one hour long meeting with the PHE Minister Sukhnanadan Chowdhary and after his assurances the strike was called off. Warning to launch a statewide agitation, workers alleged that they were being treated like bonded labourers of the state government. They alleged that the department had not released their salary for the past one year. "Our requests have fallen on deaf ears. Most of the workers are on verge of starvation, but they are doing their work, as they have no other option. Every month, we wait for our salary, but our hopes have been squashed. Moreover, this has been going on for the last six months," PHE Daily wagers and CP workers Association leaders informed Minister ."How do we manage our family expenditures? We have no money to purchase notebooks, uniforms for our children, nor food grains and medicines," daily wager said and appealed to minister to release their wages . |
