Stone pelters mostly minors: DGP | 'Will hold counselling sessions for them' | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, May 24 : To tackle the growing incidents of stone pelting in the valley, Director General Police (DGP) K Rajindra Kumar Sunday said that stone pelters were mostly minors and police would hold counselling sessions for them. "Most of the stone pelters are minors. We don't want to go tough against them. We will identify them and will do their counselling," the DGP told KNS over phone. "Police will call their parents and talk to them. I hope they won't indulge in stone pelting after they are engaged in youth welfare programmes." However, the DGP said police were looking into all the aspects that lead to the stone pelting in the valley. "We are looking into all those aspects and will address all the reasons which instigate the youth for stone pelting," he said. "Police are also contemplating to provide computer education to all misguided unemployed youth who have taken to stone pelting for pecuniary gains. After going through counselling sessions, a number of youths have vowed that they will never resort to stone pelting again," Rajindra said. The DGP added that the police will not allow anybody to disturb law and order situation in Kashmir. "Rule of law will be enforced strictly to ensure peace. Police will respect the citizens who are law abiding and I will make sure that the common masses would not come across any trouble from the police force," he said. |
