When Director Colleges Higher Education Department, Tariq Ahmad Kawoosa was contacted, he said that they had gone to varsity for investigating the complaints of quality food.
On being asked about scholarship scandal, Kawoosa said that though they were not investigating the matter but would get details about the details of scholarship, which was published in newspapers.
On being asked if Vice Chancellor was available in the varsity, Kawoosa said that during their first visit to varsity, VC Prof. IA Hamal was present there and he might have gone for Jalandhar for some work.
Sources in the Higher education department, pleading anonymity, said that enquiry has been constituted to ascertain the veracity of scholarship complaints. "Some of officials have been trying to hush-up the case and if once exposed, many officials associated with scholarships given in other institutions including ITI, will also be exposed", an official alleged.
An Schedule Tribe student of the varsity, pleading anonymity informed Early Times that delay in the release of scholarship was a continuous process in the varsity. "According to ST scholarship scheme, the ST students are repaid the entire fee paid by them. Students of Engineering stream are paying nearly Rs. 60,000 annually but were only getting Rs. 35,000 as scholarship", he said.
The student further said that Pahari and SC students were getting scholarship once in three or four years. "Till 2013, we are getting cheques from the varsity but for the last two years, the scholarship amount was directly going to the amount of beneficiaries", he said, and alleged that the scam might be running in several lakhs as a large number of students were not getting scholarship amount despite making rounds to the varsity.
