Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 25: Hitting out at Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) Spokesperson and former MP Meem Afzal said that first year of the Modi government has proved that it lacks 'economic vision', 'fiscal direction' and 'financial astuteness' to propel India on a growth trajectory.
Addressing a press conference at Jammu & Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) headquarters here today, senior AICC leader Meem Afzal said as a result of lack of financial direction the rural economy is in serious distress while the corporate and industrial sector is losing confidence in the Modi government, the employment system is in ruins and prices of food material have gone beyond the reach of common man.
Afzal said that the Modi government which came to power on the promise of 'Achhe Din' besides assuring 10% GDP growth, creation of 10 crore jobs in five years, good crop prices to farmers @ of costs plus 50% profit, return of black money and deposit of Rs 15 lakh in each Indian account besides reduction of inflation and giving a new economic vision has proved to be directionless and utter failure which has been adjudged as 'lacking financial direction' by none else than senior BJP leader and Modi's advisor Arun Shore himself.
The AICC leader said that contrary to the solid economic foundation laid by the UPA government during ten years of its rule during which India's economy grew at the average 7.6%, the per capita income rose three folds from Rs. 241,43 in 2004 to Rs. 68,747 in 2012, industrial growth at 7.7%, service sector 9.5% and agriculture growth recorded 4.1% as a result, a record 14 crores people were lifted out poverty bracket, the figures of one year of Modi government have shown downward trends in many sectors falsifying the promises of a new economic vision by the BJP government.
Vice President PCC and former Minister Raman Bhalla, Chief Spokesperson PCC Ravinder Sharma, General Secretaries PCC Manjit Singh, Vikram Malhotra and Manmohan Singh were also present in the press briefing.
During the course of briefing, PCC leaders said that Congress party fully supports the call of Jammu Bandh on May 27 given by the Coordination Committee headed by BAR Association Jammu on issue of AIIMS hospital.
Disclosing this, Chief Spokesperson Ravinder Sharma said that the Congress party has already launched a movement and is agitating on issue of AIIMS and shelving of artificial lake project on river Tawi and the senior leaders of the party had extended full support, in the meeting of citizens called by the BAR Association Jammu last week in this regard.
The JKPCC leaders also took strong exception to the decision of the government to discontinue the practice of summer secretariat in Jammu, which is another blow to Jammu people by the present coalition, especially the BJP which secured mandate on the issue of better deal to the people of Jammu region.
