Are Bar Association, CC aware of conspiracies? | Another attempt by Kashmiris to divert attention of Jammu from AIIMS | |
Early Times Report JAMMU, May 25: The vested interests in Kashmir have ganged up to scuttle the ongoing movement for establishment of the proposed AIIMS in Jammu. The Coordination Committee (CC) comprising 70-odd non-political organizations under the leadership of president Jammu & Kashmir High Court Bar association (JKHCBA), Jammu, Abhinav Sharma, is spearheading the movement. The CC has given a bandh call and urged the people of Jammu province to observe a complete bandh on May 27, when Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh visits Jammu to address a rally and highlight achievements of the Narendra Modi government. This would be the second bandh against what is being described by the people of Jammu as "anti-BJP". Jammu observed first bandh against the BJP on April 24, which was a massive affair. The vested interests in Kashmir have joined hands to unleash a misinformation campaign and put forth certain demands with a view to making people of Jammu province forget the AIIMS and focus on other issues. They had adopted a similar policy on May 15, when it was declared in Jammu that there was no question of the AIIMS being established in Jammu and the ongoing artificial lake project over Tawi also could be shelved. Their announcement boomeranged with the outraged people of Jammu deciding - apart from deciding to issue show cause notices to all the BJP ministers and MLAs to know if they were with Kashmir or for Jammu - to observe bandh in Jammu on May 27 and threatening a full-scale and relentless campaign to achieve the twin objectives - establishment of AIIMS and completion of the lake project - in case the BJP failed to concede the demands within 10 days. Convinced that the people of Jammu province are all set to observe bandh and start a mass campaign, the vested interests in Kashmir on Sunday made another attempt to divert the attention of agitating people of Jammu province from AIIMS. They said that Jammu province already has AIIMS, that Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had announced AIIMS for Kashmir and that the Union Government must set up IIT, IIM and other institutes in Kashmir to establish parity with Jammu. A report from Srinagar said that the Health Department of the State Government, which is with the BJP, had already started the process of identifying land in Kashmir for establishment of AIIMS and asserted that Arun Jaitely had announced AIIMS for Kashmir. "We have written to the Revenue Department to identify location," outgoing Commissioner Secretary, Health and Medical Education (H&ME) Department, Shantamanu, was quoted as saying. "Union Finance Minister Atun Jaitley had announced AIIMS for Kashmir in the budget which he presented earlier this year," another report from Kashmir said. The fact of the matter is that Arun Jaitley had announced AIIMS for Jammu and this fact was acknowledged by MoS in PMO Jitendra Singh not once but twice. It is however, a different story that he has now adopted a vague stand on the issue. It appears, he has also fallen in line. After all, he belongs to a party that has developed contempt for Jammu for the crime it committed by electing 25 BJP candidates to the assembly and two MPs to the Lok Sabha. If one report said that "Union Finance Minister Atun Jaitley had announced AIIMS for Kashmir in the budget which he presented earlier this year", another report quoting PDP MP and former Finance Minister Tariq Hamid Karra said that Jammu already has AIIMS. "While the Jammu region is in its right to ask for another AIIMS for the region, the people of Kashmir have also a right to press for setting up of institutions like IIT, IIM and IIMC which have been exclusively established in Jammu," the report said, and added that there had to be a parity between Kashmir and Jammu. "Given the distinct geographical, climatic and political scenario of the state's two regions, there has to be a parity of institutions in Jammu and Kashmir as disparities and inequalities in distribution of institutions and other key establishments only brews mistrust and alienation," the report further said. Significantly, Jammu doesn't have till date any of these three (Indian Institute of Technology, Indian Institute of Management and Indian Institute of Mass Communication) institutes. It is shocking that while the vested in Kashmir have been conspiring against Jammu, none of the BJP ministers or MLAs has even once opened his mouth to connect with people by sharing their concerns. On the contrary, the BJP ministers and MLAs are busy playing petty games for the promotion of their own selfish interests. Are the JKHCBA, Jammu, and the CC aware of the conspiracies being hatched in Kashmir to scuttle the ongoing movement in Jammu province for justice and fair play? They need to be very careful as their enemy is cunning, unscrupulous and powerful. |
