Early Times Report Srinagar, May 26: For erecting a mobile transmission tower in the compound of his house at Sopore in Baramullah here, a sarpanch's father was tonight shot dead by militants. The militants, whose number was not known, forced their entry into the house of Ghulam Hassan Dar and shot him dead, according to police sources. The militants later fled the spot. Hassan's son is a sarpanch. Sources said though it was not yet known as to why the militants killed him but it "seems as if he has been eliminated for installing mobile transmission tower inside his house". Police had launched a massive operation in the area to track down the militants. Searches were continuing till late tonight. The militants had yesterday shot dead an employee of a BSNL franchisee and injured two others in Sopore town. A grenade was Saturday night hurled at a residence where a mobile transmission tower was installed but it had failed to explode. In the valley, militants have targetted telecom operators earlier also. Police were, however, yet to find out the reason behind it. Sources, however, said the militants were targetting the telecom operators because the equipments, they had fixed atop the mobile transmission towers, had gone missing. |
