Early Times Report

Srinagar, May 26: Announcement of the Health Minister Chaudary Lal Singh that under construction Rs 100 crore hospital project at Bhalesa Gandoh would be reduced to fifty bed hospital has divided the coalition partners in Jammu and Kashmir, as Peoples Democratic Party on Tuesday said that Bhalesa hospital is an ambitious project and government is committed to complete it.
Pertinently, the Health Minister during his recent visit to Bhalesa had announced that under-construction 100-bedded hospital in Bhalesa, Gandoh would be turned into a 50-beded hospital.
However, the PDP general secretary Mehboob Iqbal snubbed the Health Minister saying, “ I have no information about minister’s visit to Bhalesa. What he said could be miscommunication.”
He said that the coalition government was committed to improve and expand the health facilities in the state particularly in the remote areas. He said that the Bhalesa hospital was an ambitious project which on completion would give fillip to the health sector in Chenab region.
Mehboob said that providing better healthcare and equipping the health institutions with modern gadgets was the top priority of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed-led coalition government.
He urged the people not to pay heed to the rumours being spread by the vested interests to create confusion among the masses. He said the expansion of health facilities in Jammu and Kashmir would soon receive a fillip.
The PDP general secretary said that steps were being taken for expansion of healthcare facilities in the state to achieve the goal of providing accessible and quality healthcare to the people particularly living in far-flung villages and remote areas.
As the health sector in Jammu and Kashmir continues to be ailing, health minister Lal Singh, instead of expanding health facilities to remote areas, is undoing whatever little has been done so for in this direction.
Hundreds of people staged a protest the other day under the banner of Chenab Valley Hydel Power Projects Workers union led by Javed Zargar. The agitating people were up in arms against the minister for his announcement to reduce the centrally sanctioned 100 bedded hospital to 50 bedded.
Known for his arrogance, the health minister instead of putting his efforts in providing better health care to the people of the remote areas is rubbing salt on wounds of these poor people by making such bizarre announcements.
“The minister should take steps for expansion of healthcare facilities to achieve the goal of providing accessible and quality healthcare to the people particularly living in far-flung villages and remote areas. He should work towards equipping the health centres and hospitals with latest machines and fully utilized for treatment of patients and give incentives to doctors and other staff to work in far-off health institutions” Zargar said. He regretted that the minister was either insulting the doctors fraternity by abusing them or creating uncertainty among the people by issuing bizarre statements.
