Early Times Report

JAMMU, May 26:While the supervisor of a flour mill was today placed under suspension for not adhering to the prescribed CAPD norms, a fine of Rs 1.5 lakh was imposed on two mills for allegedly committing "irregularities".
Surprise checking of four flour mills was carried out here by the minister and a team of senior CAPD officers, following public complaints that poor quality flour was being supplied to the CAPD outlets.
Inspecting New Jammu Flour Mill, he was surprised to find that Punjab-made flour packaging bags were being used to fill CAPF flour in them. The team took a strong notice of it and felt that it would bring a bad name to the department.
The mill supervisor was immediately placed under suspension and directed to use J&K PDS bags carrying batch No, quality and date of manufacturing. It was also observed that the mill was not adhering to certain norms like a separate compartment for grinding of PDS wheat and sale of underweight flour bags, both in case of commercial and PDS. A fine of Rs 50,000 was imposed on the mill and the CAPD director was asked to to suspend lifting of PDS flour from the mill and issue a show cause notice in this regard. At New Nav Flour Mill, multiple MRPs were noticed on flour bags besides use of un-calibrated filling machine and underweight bags. A fine of Rs 1 lakh was imposed on the mill. The mill was also not using separate compartment for grinding PDS wheat.
A committee, headed by Deputy Director, Food and Supplies, was constituted to monitor the functioning of flour mills and CAPD stores in all the districts, besides ensuring strict adherence to the fixed norms by these units. An appeal was also made to people to register their complains with the CAPD grievance cell regarding the services of CAPD and quality supply of essentials. "All efforts would be made to ensure that the people get hygienic and quality ration as they have to be dependent on our supply only", official sources said. Earlier, the team paid surprise visit to CAPD stores to get feedback on the directions issued by the minister regarding timely dispatch of ration to all destinations.
CAPD director G S Chib, Joint Controller Amar Singh, Deputy Controller Manoj Parbhakar and Deputy Director Arun Kotwal were part of the team.
