Kishtwar, May 27 :Serious concerns have been raised over the rising pollution levels in the state of Jammu and Kashmir by the Committee on Environment of Jammu and Kashmir Assembly headed by G. M. Saroori. In a meeting held on Wednesday, the committee discussed thread bare measures to discuss the measures to control the pollution levels. The committee will also be approaching the Pollution Control Board in this regard to seek a detailed report. Among the legilsators who attended the meeting were - Shamima Firdous, Abdul Majid Larmi, Altaf Ahmad Wani, Muhammad Amin Bhat, Deleep Singh, Dr. Krishan Lal, Muhammad Abbas Wani, Aijaz Ahmad Mir, Neelan Kumar Langeh, Davinder Kumar Manyal, Gulzar Ahmad Wani, Dr. Gagan Bhagat and Anjum Fazili. The legislators highlighted that authorities need to keep a check on use of polythene, waste management, mixing and use of K-Oil in vehicles to curb rising pollution. A unanimous consensus was also reached during the meeting saying that the court directions in respect of cutting of yellow poplar needs to be implemented with letter and spirit as these poplars are not only dangerous for environment but are unsafe for human health also. |
