Fresh WD likely to hit by Friday, mercury remains below normal in Kashmir

Srinagar, May 27:A fresh Western Disturbance (WD) is likely to hit the region by Friday which could result in rain or thundershowers in the Kashmir valley, where the mercury was below normal. A Met department spokesperson said here this afternoon that the weather will be generally dry over Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours.
However, during the subsequent four days, there could be isolated rain or thundershowers from May 29 evening in the state. Barring summer capital, Srinagar, the minimum temperature remained below normal. The city witnessed about five degree below normal maximum temperature yesterday. Border town of Kargil on the Srinagar-Leh national highway recorded lowest 2. 8 degrees Celsius temperature while Leh recorded three degrees drop. He said against yesterday's one degrees minimum temperature, it was 2. 8 degrees while at Leh it was 3.
1 degrees against yesterday's 5.8 degrees recorded yesterday. However, the weather will be mainly clear tomorrow at Leh and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 20 degrees and 5 degree respectively. Srinagar recorded normal temperature after witnessing below normal temperature during the past about four days. Against yesterday's 10. 4 degree, it was 12.
1 degree which is considered normal during this period of the season. He said the maximum temperature yesterday was 22 degree, which was five degree below normal in the city.
The sky would be mainly clear tomorrow in the city and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 26 degree and 11 degree, again below normal. At world famous ski resort of Gulmarg and health resort of Pahalgam, the minimum temperature was 5 degrees and 4. 2 degrees respectively which was two notches below normal. At gateway of Kashmir, Qazigund, the minimum temperature was 7.
8 degrees, more than three notches below normal while at Kokernag, it was 8. 4 degrees about three notches below normal. Kupwara, a north Kashmir town also recorded 8 degrees minimum temperature, three degree below normal. There will be no respite from the heat wave conditions in Jammu, where the sky will be mainly clear and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 40 degree and 24 degree respectively.
