Jammu May 27: People of Doda and its adjoining areas who have been allegedly duped by the manager of Faridiya Gas Agency by selling LPG connections at exorbitant rates today demanded seizure of his property. While talking to "Early Times", the aggrieved people who faced the brunt on part of the high profile manager of the LPG agency owned by the relative of former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said that the accused Shabir Ahmed Natnoo has accumulated huge wealth in past two to three years including his palatial house constructed near new district hospital complex Doda. He added that the accused purchased land for construction of this house at the rate over Rs3.5 lac/marla. They said that after paying high value for the land, the said manager constructed two storey houses within a few months. The house of Shabir Ahmed Natnoo, according to the locals, has all modern facilities, besides CCTV cameras have also been installed to keep an eye even on pedestrians. Besides a house the manager of Faridiya Gas Agency Doda, according to the people also owns a few vehicles. "He is not from a rich family back ground--- his father is simple a shopkeeper- Even though he (Shabir) claims that his income is genuine. How he accumulated such huge wealth needs to be investigated" said an aggrieved, adding that there is also need to check the bank accounts of the accused so the gravity of the offence committed by him could be made public. He also demanded the amount collected from the illegal property of the accused could be refunded to those customers who had been charged extra amount by the agency. Meanwhile the associates of influential accused today decamped with the bundles of "Early Times" newspaper so that the common people of Doda could not get access to news of his misdeeds published in the newspaper. It is pertinent to mention, manager of Faridiya Gas Agency Doda owned by the relative of former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad was yesterday arrested by the Doda police on court directions for black marketing of LPG cylinders and selling new connections at exorbitant rates. The agency is owned by Javed Azad, who happens to be the close relative of Ghulam Nabi Azad. The complainant informed the police that the manager of the gas agency used to charge amount double or triple for every new connection against the government rate fixed at Rs 1450 as security for one cylinder (without gas), Rs 150 for regulator and Rs 422 for refilling of cylinder on subsidizes rates. The consumers had also complained that the gas agency had failed to provide the home delivery to them as per the norms.
