Rajnath Singh's latest statement about return of KPs adds to already prevailing confusion | 'Ready to hold further discussion with Mufti govt on the issue' | | Jehangir Rashid
Early Times Report SRINAGAR, May 28: Home Minister Rajnath Singh's statement that the central government is ready to hold further deliberations with the state government about resettlement of Kashmiri Pandits in the valley clearly points out that the final decision in this regard is yet to be taken. During his visit to Jammu, the winter capital of the state, the Home Minister had said that the final decision on the return of Kashmiri Pandits to the valley has not been taken as yet. He said that the decision about the return of Kashmiri Pandits would be taken only after proper and meaningful consultations with the state government. Rajnath said that although he has asked chief minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed to identify the land for setting up townships in Kashmir, but the finer details about resettlement of Kashmir Pandits would be made available at the appropriate time. The latest statement is in contradiction of Bharatiya Janta Party's stand on the resettlement of Kashmiri Pandits in the Kashmir valley. From day one of assuming power at New Delhi, the BJP had said that the party stands committed to the return of Kashmiri Pandits to the valley and that too in 'dedicated' colonies. However, the party gave up the demand of 'dedicated' colonies while finalizing Common Minimum Programme (CMP) for government formation in the state with Peoples Democratic Party. The Home Minister virtually dropped a bombshell in the first week of April when he said that he has asked Mufti to identify 50 acres of land for setting up separate townships for Kashmiri Pandits in the Kashmir valley. The chief minister retorted back saying that no separate townships would be set up with people of different religions free to live in the composite townships with the Kashmiri Pandits. Statements from Rajnath and Mufti virtually brought the coalition partners at loggerheads with one accusing the other of violating the coalition dharma. At the end of the day the Kashmiri Pandits are at loss to understand the things. They don't know about the actual plan of action vis-à-vis their return to the Kashmir valley. The latest statement from the Home Minister at Jammu seems to have gone in favour of the PDP and BJP yet again relegated to the second spot as 'B' team. If the Home Ministry had directed the state government to expedite the process of setting up separate townships in the valley then what is the fun of holding further deliberations with the state government on this issue. It seems that Government of India is confused with respect to the return of Kashmiri Pandits to the valley with the final decision in this regard yet to be taken. The BJP is playing to the galleries by raking up the issue of return of Kashmiri Pandits to the valley time and again. The party can go to any extent in 'sacrificing' their ideology while sticking to the power in the state. |
