| BJP has still time to rectify wrong done to Jammu | | |
The Union Home Minister,Rajnath
Singh,has announced that the Gov
ernment will not allow waving of Pakistani flags and shouting of pro-Pakistan slogans on the soil of Kashmir. This warning he dished out in Jammu on Wednesday when the city of temples and its adjoining areas in the region had observed complete Bandh in protest against discrimination of Jammu region in the shape of sanctioning one AIIMS for Kashmir and not for Jammu.If Rajnath Singh has decided to prevent unruly elements from waving Pakistani flags in Kashmir or from shouting anti-India slogans does he have any plan to check organizing Jammu shutdown ?For the time being he and the BJP led Government do not seem to have any plan to prevent people,political parties, traders, transporters and other sections of people from observing complete hartal.Had the BJP leaders and other political allies of Prime Minister,Narendra Modi any plan to create a situation in which people in the region of Jammu had no need for organizing a Bandh they would have,by now, sanctioned separate AIIMS for Jammu..It is evident because various demands of people of the region have not been fulfilled so far.The top demand being setting up one AIIMs for Jammu too without depriving the Kashmir valley from the one sanctioned for the province.
In fact Rajnath Singh preferred to ignore the demand for AIIMs for Jammu because during his sermons which he dished out during a function in the winter capital on Wednesday and instead he touched in detail the issues related to the activities of separatists and militants in the Kashmir valley.Instead of addressing an issue that had provoked the Jammuites for organizing a complete Bandh Rajnath Singh's mind seemed to have been upset by the display of pro-Pakistan sentiments by a section of separatists and their supporters in recent weeks in Kashmir.Hence the only easy way for him to deviate from the raging issue related to the setting up of AIIMS in Jammu was his diatribe against the separatists. separatists, Rajnath Singh has announced that nobody would be allowed to wave Pakistani flags in Kashmir, maintaining that there would be no compromise on national security.He was sure that the coalition government will complete its term and work as per the Common Minimum Programme, but if the national security was compromised, the BJP will not hesitate to come out of the government.He added, "We have no lust for power at the cost of national security. Raising pro-Pak slogans and waving of its flags is unfortunate, and will not be tolerated at all."He also said that there will be no discrimination with any region whether it is Jammu, Kashmir or Ladakh.
If Rajnath Singh has announced that the Government of India will not discriminate one region against the other but provide equal and fair treatment to the regions of Kashmir,Jammu and Ladakh does not this announcement call for an indepth analysis and review ?Over the years the Jammuites have genuine grievance against what they call prolonged spell of discrimination of the region of Jammu in the devolution of financial and political powers.Right from the conservation and development of lakes to the sanctioning of universities,AIIMS type institutes,IIMs and other Educational institutions down to the setting up industrial units to recruitment in Government offices people in the region of Jammu have been given a raw deal.Even in the number of Assembly and Lok Sabha segments there is discrimination.There are 37 Assembly seats and two Lok Sabha constituencies in the region of Jammu against 46 Assembly seats and three Lok Sabha constituencies in the Kashmir valley.People in the Jammu region had voted in favour of the BJP which enabled the party to win 25 out of 37 seats in the region,a first time record established by the BJP.People had voted for BJP with the hope that the party could wage a war against regional discrimination but the BJP too has emulated the Congress in perpetuating the level of regional imbalance.There is still time for the BJP to undo the wrong.If it fails to rectify the wrong it can be mauled in the next election. |
