National Games gold medalist gets 100 percent score in class X | | | Abodh Sharma Early Times Report Jammu, May 29: Belying all idioms that have suggested since ages that those who chose to play were bound to be spoilt and end up doing nothing; a merely 15 year old National Games gold medalist has scored a perfect 10 not in the sporting arena, but in her class X CBSE exam, result of which were declared the previous day. Mridul Gupta who won a team gold in the last edition of prestigious National Games of India held at Kerela has proved her mettle in the academics as well, setting an example for all those parents, guardians and children who thought that their studies would suffer if they took to sports. A student of presentation convent surprised her parents when she got a perfect 10 CGPA. Though a brilliant student, Mridul had to invest lot of time for her training ahead of the national games that were held in January-February 2015, just a month before the exams. "It was a long camp, followed by the tournament at Tiruvanatpuram and we were prepared that she might not get good marks this time" said her father. Daughter of teacher parents, Mridul managed her time well to study after long training sessions at M A Stadium. "It is not easy for anyone to do that as gymnasts train very hard and we have prolonged training sessions which might last five to six hours" said Krupali Singh, her coach. "I was ecstatic to see my result. I was apprehensive as I had not been able to put in as much time as I had wanted to due to national games falling just before the exams" said Mridul. "I owe a lot to my parents who helped me in managing time and my coaches who were flexible with my training timings," she added. Mridul's dual success would help in clearing several myths that have restrained ambitious parents from sending their children to play grounds in the name of academic excellence. |
