No computer lecturer for 103 students at GHSS Machhedi
415 students study in unsafe building

Billawar, June17: Tall claims of the union as well as state government of according highest priority to education are blatantly belied interestingly in the constituency of Dy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh wherein 415 students study in unsafe building.
Besides, over 103 students who opted for computer as subject have no teacher to teach them.
Principal Arvin Kumar Koul admitted shortage of staff members, infrastructure and proper funds for development.
While appraising worse condition of the school, 40 km away here from Billawar Town, Principal said that mud and thatch structure of the school could crumble anytime in rains.
He said half session has been completed of Winter Zone but shortage of lecturers in specific subjects affect the studies of students who reach school after walking almost 25 km from their native villages. He accepted that chemicals for Chemistry practical were expired, equipment for practical in physics are in worse condition or out of order.
Principal said he needs 20 more rooms for accommodation as it is difficult for students to sit in temporary mud rooms. He said the department has sanctioned 14 posts for lecturers of different subjects but only 7 were deployed who could not reach school on time due to bad road connectivity and shortage of transport facility. He said the charter of demands to renovate school infrastructure and filling of vacant posts has been projected to DD C Kathua through proper channel, DIET, CEO Kathua and DSE Jammu but nothing has been done and students are sufferings.
Makhni Devi, a 12th class student, said she reaches here from several miles but due to shortage of staff members they were getting frustrated. She said medical, Non- medical and IT students are affected the most. She said Education minister and department should take immediate step in this regard and help them to compete with the students studying in urban areas. Ajay Kumar, another student complained of insufficient space in class room. He demanded proper infrastructure, books in library and scientific equipment. He said 103 Computer sciences and IT students do not know how to start computer. When approached, Balbir Singh, CEO Kathua, accepted that he never visited in Machhedi. CEO said schools are closed in summer zone and ensured to visit to review the working and infrastructure of schools falling under winter zone. He did not speak anything on shortage of staff and lack of infrastructure in GHSS Machhedi and said a proposal for building would be formulated and sent to higher authority soon.
