Unidentified gunmen open fire at cop, constable injured | | | Early Times Report
Kathua, June 29: A police constable of Anti Goonda Squad was injured when some unidentified car-borne gunmen opened fire at him here, this morning. Identifying the injured cop as Jagdish Singh of Hatli, police suspected that assailants were narcotic smugglers from Punjab. The latter were reportedly looking for a local narcotic smuggler 'Dollar'in the town at that time. Giving details, sources said that the injured cop along with another, Rahul Thakur of Jarai, left Kathua police station on a bike following information that two car-borne youth were looking for a notorious character from the town. As they intercepted the car and asked its occupants to come out, one of them opened fire injuring Constable Jagdish Singh. Thereafter, leaving their car they snatched a bike from a person, Bhaiyaji, hailing from Uttar Pradesh and escaped. Bhaiyaji has been working in Kathua town for past few years. The police have seized the car abandoned by the accused and also taken into custody the person in whose search they had come to the town, sources said. The police have registered a case and launched massive man hunt for them. 'Dollar', a narcotic smuggler had been recently released from a jail in Punjab. |
