Anantnag, June 29: A Power Development Department (PDD) official allegedly thrashed and humiliated an employee in presence of a local delegation here in south Kashmir. Against the incident, hundreds of PDD employees today held a protest demonstration against Executive Engineer PDD Anantnag and demanded stern action against him. Reports said that employees of Achabal division of PDD assembled inside the office of Deputy Commissioner Anantnag and held a forceful protest demonstration against the Executive Engineer Ali Mohammad who according to them thrashed and humiliated their colleague inside his office. Agitating employees told Early Times that Mohammad Akram Sheikh, who is looking after Wanigam-Dailgam village, was thrashed by the officer when he visited his office with a report about a faulty electric transformer. "As soon as I entered his office, the officer stood up and slapped me twice in presence of a delegation of the village which I am looking after," Sheikh said. He said that on Saturday evening due to lightening, 400 KV transformer sustained damage. He said he was directed by the senior officials of the department to submit a report about the transformer. "Junior Engineer and Assistant Executive Engineer of the department directed me to submit the report about the transformer. But when I entered his office, he slapped me in front of a delegation and even abused me," Sheikh said. Electric Employees Association's district head and other office bearers who were part of the protest demonstration threatened a mass agitation against the incident if higher officials of the department failed in initiating action the erring officer. "This is not the first time that he has thrashed an employee. We will go for an indefinite strike if the official isn't taken to task," Gulzar Ahmad, district president of the Association, told Early Times. Ali Mohammad, the Executive Engineer, when contacted said that he "only grilled" the employee for not following the laid procedure. "AEE is supposed to submit the damage report, but the employee who can submit the report with JE concerned bypassed all the officers and came with the report along with a public delegation of the village," he said, denying the allegations of thrashing and humiliating. |
