Registrar, Controller Exam, Dir CDC appointed in violation of Chancellor's order | Adhocism rules roost in JU | | Avinash Azad Early Times Report JAMMU, June 30: Notwithstanding Governor's order to conduct interview for administrative positions, adhocism is ruling the roost at Jammu University, as successive vice chancellors have preferred to appoint their favourite persons at various administrative posts. Documents possessed by Early Times reveal that the Governor's secretariat had asked the university to conduct interview for administrative positions through selection committee meeting. "The Chancellor has desired that the proposed selection committee meeting for the conduct of interview for administrative positions in the university of including Registrar, Controller of Examination and Director, Colleges Development Council (CDC) should not go beyond July 14-19, 2011," the letter from Governor's office to then vice chancellor JU read. Sources said that since then adhocism is prevailing in the university, as the VCs have preferred to appoint their close aides on these posts. "The Rajbhawan issued the order when Prof Varun Sahni was VC. Sahni's successor Prof MPS Ishar also failed to comply with the order and appointed his loyalists to these posts, said the sources, adding that the incumbent VC has also preferred to adopt the path laid down by his predecessors. Ex-VC Prof Sahni had informed the Rajbhawan that the committee could not find suitable candidates for these posts. "I would like to inform you that the university advertised, among other positions, the post of Registrar. In response seven applications were received and only one candidate was found to be eligible. Again applications were invited, and nine applications were received, while four candidates were found eligible, two were common for the post of Director CDC and the Registrar," Prof Sahni had said. Sources said the things remained unchanged during the tenure of Prof Ishar who had replaced Prof Sahni. "It has become a trend in the university that instead of focusing on suitable candidates for administration posts, the VCs have preferred to appoint their loyalists," the sources said. |
