Sumit Sharma Early Times Report JAMMU, June 30: Jammu, June 30: Governor NN Vohra, who is also chairman of Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB), visited the holy cave shrine on June 27. Vohra is 79-year-old, and it's specifically mentioned in SASB's brochure that elderly persons above the age of 75 years "shall not be permitted to undertake the pilgrimage" in view of the tough nature of the track. Vohra's visit to the cave shrine has raised questions, with many elderly devotees of the Amarnath asking why they can't undertake the pilgrimage. The Governor visited the holy cave shrine on June 27 to take stock of the arrangements ahead of the annual 59-day yatra scheduled to begin from July 2. He was accompanied by Chief Executive Officer of the SASB P K Tripathi and General Officer Commanding of Srinagar-based Chinar Corps, Lt General Subrata Saha and other senior officials. "Is it written in the constitution of SASB that a Governor enjoys age relaxation to visit the shrine? If it so then where is the copy," a lawyer told Early Times. SASB's CEO was not available for his comment over the issue. |
