Jammu, July 1: Contrary to claims of the coalition government to complete the ongoing projects would be timely completed, the construction of Government Polytechnic College (GPC) which begun five years ago is still incomplete. Moreover, the previous government was sanctioned Rs 14 Crore for the construction of GPC Kathua in financial year 2011-2012 and set a deadline was set in 2013-2014 but due to callous approach of the government out of Rs 14 Crores, Rs 6 Crores was yet to be released. Source informed Early Times that due to lack of infrastructure, the department restricted the students to get education in limited infrastructure, is making mockery of the technical education. He further said that owing to delay in releasing of sufficient funds for construction of the building, the college administration has been compelled to organize classes in rented building, which has adversely affected the quality of education, adding, " the college has been running in a private building of Katar Public School, Barnoti and the department concerned paying huge money as rent of the building in private hands but instead of providing sufficient infrastructure ", he said. "Due to nexus between higher officials with private building owner, the huge money is bleeding from public exchequer and department concerned is seems in deep slumber", he alleged. Pertinently, two months back, the students of the same college had staged protest against the Technical Education Department, and blocked the Jammu-Pahtankot National Highway at Barnoti for delaying in construction of government building and dearth of faculty and also warned the college administration to launch agitation, if government has been failed to meet his genuine demands but more than two month has gone, the government has still not released the pending sanctioned funds for completion of college building. When this correspondent contacted to Executive Agency' Engineer, Atul Gupta said that due to lack of sufficient funds, the construction of college was lingering on, adding, "had the department concerned released pending funds, the construction works would be completed by September, otherwise it would take more time", he said. Principal of the College, Arun Basgotra said that he recently joined and unaware about it. |
