Inadequate yatra arrangements explode tourism promotion claims

Jammu, July 2: Even as the government seems interested in promoting tourism in the state through road shows in neighbouring states, no transport facilities from Jammu Railway station to the base camp were provided to the Amarnath pilgrims
Raj Kumar, who led a group of pilgrims from Bhopal, MP informed Early Times about the failure of authorities to make proper arrangements for the yatris including opening of more registration centers, transportation facilities from Jammu Railway Station to Bhagwati Nagar base camp.
"Every year the pilgrims are subjected to problems here and Amarnath yatra is made an controversial issue by the authorities", said Kumar another piligrims.
Kumar said : "when no such problems are being faced by the pilgrims of Kedarnath and Badri Nath which is also a hazardous pilgrimage in deep Himalayas in Uttarakhand State, and the government makes proper arrangement for pilgrims but during Amarnath yatra the pilgrims faces a lot of problems."
Ranjeet Singh, a shopkeeper of Bhagwati Nagar said that previous year BJP was making loud noise showing concern for yatra and yatris. "But in power nothing has been done by the BJP for the pilgrims," he regretted.
Shailender, another pilgrim from Indore, who along with other members of his group has said their team reached here two days back and they were taken aback to find that the authorities have not opened another registration counters as yet.
He further said that the pilgrims are asked to get medical check up from Government Hospital Gandhinagar from 8 am to 11 am which is totally impossible. The medical examination should be conducted up to 5pm and the special health centers be opened for the same near the registration office or Yatri Niwas, he added.
"The doctors asked them to get the tests conducted from private shops and they will sign the same", he said, adding that they feel harassed and their faith gets eroded as the authorities instead of cooperating with pilgrims are harassing and humiliating them.
