Early Times Report Jammu, July 2: On 18th death anniversary of Late Col Chhewang Rinchen of Ladakh a highly decorated Army officer in the world , savior of Ladakh from Pakistan and China whose death annivverssary was observed by the State NCP under the chairmanship of former minister, Thakur Randhir Singh. According to press release, on this occasion, Singh said Col Rinchen born at Sumer in Nubra valley and joined Nubra Guards at the age of 17. He further said that Late Col Rinchen was his closest family friend and took me throughout Ladakh which ultimately convinced me to open Ladakh a secluded region not only for the domestic tourists but also for forgieners and ultimately I could convinced to than Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi to visit Ladakh and declared Ladakh a tourist destination. He was awarded Mahavir Chakra for the second time. Mr Singh said in one of the memoirs of Pakistan General he had paid rich tributes to Col Rinchen bravery for capturing Turtuk sector.
