| Amarnath yatris face hardships in seeking current registration | | |

JAMMU, July 3: Notwithstanding the claims of the Government and Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) the Swami Amarnath pilgrims are subjected to lot of registration and humiliation here in getting the on spot registration.
Hundreds of yatris who reach here from different parts of country for the darshan of holy cave without registration have to wait for days together for the same. The unorganized system of registration by the administration has compounded the problems of these pilgrims who despite remaining in queue for last three days since the annual yatra started from here on July 1 failed to get themselves enrolled.
The huge rush at registration counters coupled with slow process of registration has been a cause of concern for these pilgrims who despite standing in queues from early in the morning fail to get themselves enrolled due to the callousness of the officials.
The lady pilgrims are more worried as in the heavy rush of pilgrims at registration counters they are unable to reach the counter to seek themselves enrolled. These pilgrims have a tale to tell as standing in queues continuously for last three days since 2 amin the morning they failed to get themselves registered. Hundreds of pilgrims who have come in groups from various places of UP told this reporter that they are unable to get themselves registered. Some ladies got injured as mob jostle with each other in order to manage his or her place ahead of others. Due to the chaos and confusion at registration counters the yatris are totally dismayed with the role of the State Government and Shrine Boardwhich is claiming to have made elaborate arrangements for yatris but have failed to register the yatris for days together.
Yatris coming here from different states like UP, MP, Rajasthan under tour package programme through various travel agencies said they feel cheated by the travel agents as well. In our home states we are being asked by the Travel agents that they will themselves manage their registration and medical check up but here we are unable to get the registration for darshan for last three days, said Dinu Bhai a pilgrim from Saharanpur, Utrakhand . He said for last three days our group is daily visiting Jammu Hat early in the morning but to no avail.
The people stand in queues since 2am in the night and the registration counter opens at 11 am and closes at 12-30 pm, said Ramesh Chander another pilgrim from Bhopal MP. He said when we tried to find out the cause of closing the counter so early the officials on duty said that the quota of the day has exhausted. This is a cruel joke with pilgrims, he added.
He sought immediate intervention of higher ups in State Government and Shrine Board in the matter so that the yatris are relieved of their problems. If the registration is delayed this way how long the yatris will remain here as it will prove very expensive for them, he added.
The health certificates are also not accepted and to delay the registration process the yatris are asked to get new health certificates, said Ramo Devi another pilgrim from Rajasthan. She said when the health certificates have been got by the pilgrims on the same lines as announced by Shrine Board then why they are not entertained and pilgrims asked to get new certificates. This way the registration process is being delayed by the authorities deliberately, she added. |
