BARAMULLA, July 4: The 48 hour long encounter between militants and Indian army in Uri sector of North Kashmir's Baramulla district came to an end on Saturday morning. Meanwhile two militants, one army man were killed while one solider is also injured. A senior police official while talking to Early Times said that, "The encounter started on the intervening night of July 2 and 3, when a group of 4-5 heavily armed militants tried to sneak into this side of Line of Control in Uri sector of Baramulla district." The activity was detected within meters of the Line of Control (LoC) in Chotali village in Boniyar Theisl of Baramulla district, said official. After being challenged, the ultras opened heavy volume of fire at the security forces. The fire was retaliated from both the sides ensuing fierce gunfight that continued for several hours on Friday morning, said official. However infiltrators were intercepted after they sneaked in to this part of Kashmir near Noori post (Line of Control) in Chotali village by army's 8 Sikh Regiment. The body of the killed militant has not been recovered as yet, the official said, adding, the operation was called off, adding that the soldier who was killed in an encounter was identified as Harpreet Singh of 8, Sikh regiment.
A senior police official said that Saturday afternoon gunfight was stopped in the area in which another militant was killed in around 36 hour gunfight operation.
Meanwhile, the search operation is still in progress and two dead bodies have been retrieved so far from the site of encounter.
