| Health Minister makes merry of his portfolio, visits areas according to his wish | | Health department officials 'coerced' to pay fatty bills | | Jehangir Rashid

SRINAGAR, July 5: The health department higher ups and officials are at loss these days since they have to pay for the 'hefty' bills of health minister, who has been on a whirlwind tour to the different areas of the state more so Kashmir valley.
Sources told Early Times that the health minister visited the world famous health resort of Pahalgam in South Kashmir today.
The minister was not all alone, but he was accompanied by a huge team comprising of around 30 persons. Directives had been in advance issued to the health department officials to arrange for the pony ride and pay for it as well.
"Minister and his team members are putting up at one of the reputed hotels in Pahalgam. The fatty bill for the lodging charges has to be paid by the health officials of the Anantnag district. Chief Medical Officer, Anantnag has already been asked to pay for the pony ride, hotel charges and other miscellaneous charges during the visit of the health minister," said sources.
Sources said that health minister visited Sonamarg, Kargil and Leh in the recent past and here too he was accompanied by the 'huge' team of 30 members. At these places the team members along with Lal Singh enjoyed each and every bounty with the payment made by the concerned health officials.
"In the Leh area during his visit the health minister and the team members were lodged at hotel Dragon, the only 5-star of the area. The hotel bill was paid by the CMO Leh and the food charges along with the other charges were also paid by the district head of the health department. Same was the case with the visit of health minister and his team members to the Kargil district of the Ladakh region," said sources.
Sources said that Chief Medical Officer, Ganderbal was asked to pay for the charges incurred during the visit of the health minister and his team members to yet another world famous health resort of Sonamarg. Over the past few weeks the health minister and his team members are enjoying their outing like anything with the health department 'coerced' to pay for the fatty bills.
"Not only this, the health minister arranged for a dinner of the team at the Lalit's in Srinagar. Director Health Services Kashmir was asked pay the dinner bill at the Lalit's. The fatty dinner bill amounting to Rs. 30,000 was paid by the Director Health Services Kashmir. There seems to be no end to the enjoyment of privileges and perks by Lal Singh and his team," said sources.
Sources said that payment of bill on account of various charges during the tours of Lal Singh and his team mocks at the government's claim that the treasuries are running dry over the past few months. They said that in the absence of checks and balances system ministers like Lal Singh are enjoying like anything with nobody even the chief minister seeking answers from him. |
