'Tainted' doc, engineer gets prize postings, courtesy BJP ministers | | | Avinash Azad Early Times Report Jammu, July 6: BJP leaders in J&K may be swearing by honesty, but things on the ground suggest that they are no better than their counterparts from other political parties when it comes to practice what they preach. For example, in the name of so-called good governance, a couple of senior BJP ministers recently awarded prize postings to some tainted officers. Well-placed sources informed Early Times that Dr Riyaz Ahmed, former Deputy Medical Superintendent, Super Specialty Hospital Jammu who was surviving on court's stay against his termination, has been awarded with a prize posting by a senior BJP minister. Dr Riyaz, a controversial figure facing corruption charges, was elevated to post of Medical Officer, J&K Medical Supplies Corporation, on recommendation of Health Minister, said the sources. The court had observed that Dr Riyaz lacked requisite qualification for the post he was holding. "It is conceded as a fact that the appellant (Dr Riyaz) is substantive holder of the post of Assistant Surgeon in the Health Department and does not possess requisite qualification for appointment as Deputy Medical Superintendent or Medical Superintendent. That being the factual background, the appellant cannot claim, as of right to continue working on the post of Deputy Medical Superintendent/Medical Superintendent," the court had said. But the minister ignored court's observation and appointed Dr Riyaz on a responsible position. Thankfully, Dr Riyaz figures in the list of 63 government servants who were recently terminated by the state government. Similarly, another senior BJP minister, a first-timer in government who holds a crucial post in the coalition government, has favoured a tainted engineer to get him prize posting. On April 21, under government order number 136/HUD-2015, Jugal Kishore Sharma, Technical Officer, Commissioner Secretary to Government, Housing and Urban Development Department, was transferred and posted as Executive Engineer in Urban Local Bodies Jammu. Though Sharma was removed from service on August 23, 2013 for tampering with his date of birth record, a court stayed the government order following a petition filed by the accused. "He (Sharma) was removed from service for tempering with his date of birth in the service record. The crime was established by J&K Forensic Science Laboratory, Jammu vide letter number LSG/ULBJ/56/2011, dated January 5, 2013," sources said. Sharma had also made illegal appointments, during his posting at Executive Engineer HUDD's second division Jammu, and the State Vigilance Organisation had proved the charges also. "To appoint tainted officers on vital posts reflects BJP leadership's false crusade against corruption. They are worse than their counterparts from the NC, PDP and Congress when it comes to accommodating corrupt officials," said the sources. |
