Fresh cloudburst in Jammu region damages crops, buildings | | | Early Times Report
Ramban, July 27: In a cloudburst that occurred early on Monday morning in Ramban district of Jammu region, a number of buildings were damaged and it also caused damage to the crops. During the past fortnight, cloudbursts have been hitting areas in Jammu and Kashmir with an alarming frequency A senior official said that a cloudburst occurred around 3.30 am on Monday morning. It has damaged some buildings including a school, a health centre and some shops in Halla Dhrandrath area of the region. Besides causing damage to buildings, a large chunk of agricultural land has also been affected by the cloudburst, said the official who informed that it was still being assessed as to what extent the crop was damaged. During the past fortnight, cloudbursts have been hitting areas in Jammu and Kashmir with an alarming frequency. The official said that six people were killed in multiple cloudbursts in Baltal, Sonamarg, Kulan, Gagangir and Razin areas of north Kashmir's Ganderbal district. Among these cloudbursts that hit the state, included the one that hit the Baltal base camp of Amarnath Yatra where three people were killed on Saturday last and the pilgrimage had to be halted. Besides that the cloudbursts also occurred in other areas during this period in the districts of Kulgam, Shopian, Kupwara and Srinagar. |
