Gurdaspur aftermath: J&K on high alert | 'Pak wants to destabilize PDP-BJP Govt' | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 27: The J&K police and intelligence agencies have directed forces in the state to be on high alert after today's terrorist attack in Gurdaspur. "It appears the target of terrorists was J&K, more specifically Jammu region. They wanted to strike second time within four-month of the PDP-BJP government, which they want to destabilize. We are analyzing why they decided to strike at Punjab, but we have to be on the toes," said a senior police official, wishing not to be named. According to sources, senior officials of the army and the police have briefed Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and also Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh about the attempts being made from across the border with specific task to destabilize the government. Sources said the security and intelligence agencies had apprehended that the militants might strike, so they had stepped up their counterinsurgency operations. "The recent firing long the border was an attempt to check the resilience of India and also to push in terrorists, in which they failed," the sources said. "This attack could also be diversionary tactics by Pakistan to shift the focus of security agencies away from J&K for a while and then make a dastardly act when the security apparatus gets a bit complacent. We are trying to read their mind and are not leaving any thing to chance," said the senior police official. In both J&K and Punjab where the attack has taken place, the BJP is in the power and this is believed to be causing discomfort in Pakistan, as the party and especially Prime Minister Modi has idea of making India "masculine nation with the masculine policies," the sources said. "Pakistan is used to apologetic India which would earlier call for meeting even at the slight disturbance, and here is the government which doesn't want to given even a room to the separatists leave alone Pakistan. This is a major policy shift which Pakistan is not allowed to digest, and as such will plan more attacks in J&K," said the official. |
