Security lapses become evident in light of Dinanagar terror attack | Big question mark over BJP's soft policy towards Pakistan | | Early Times Report JAMMU, July 27: Although the Intelligence agencies have maintained a "guarded silence" how terrorists managed to sneak into Punjab border from Pakistan, initial investigation established that security lapses became evident in the light of Dinanagar terror attack which claimed lives of nine people including a senior officer to the level of Superintendent of Police (SP). It was intelligence failure because intelligence agencies have failed to asses that after strengthening of security all long International Border (IB) in Jammu region, terror groups, with the help of Pakistani security agencies, were trying for soft areas to sneak into India side to strike. The attack is indeed not only intelligence failure but also put question mark over BJP Government's policy towards Pakistan. Terror continue to strike on the Indian soil but BJP led NDA Government has failed to give a clear message to Pakistan. Highly placed sources in the intelligence agencies said that after repeated terror attack in Samba and Kathua districts of Jammu province, security has been strengthen in IB on Jammu. Some infiltration points have been plugged but terrorist discovered soft areas like Punjab to carry on their activities. Sources said that it was failure on the side of security as well as intelligence agencies to take preventive measures to check infiltration on IB in Punjab despite the fact that reports were pouring in that terror groups in Pakistani were exploring other possibilities to export terror in India through new routes. Official sources said the role of BSF too has come under sharp criticism for not detecting the terror movement on the International border. "The way five militants could cross in and trek to the nearest village without being detected is a serious security lapse," said a source. Preliminary investigations have revealed that the slain terrorists are most probably Pakistanis. They were wearing combat dresses and brand new shoes. Police is verifying where from these shoes were purchased. Besides automatic rifles, one knife with Pakistan marking was found, a source said. Meanwhile Congress on Monday condemned the terror attack in Dinanagar town of Punjab which, it said, was due to "intelligence failure" and came down heavily on neighbouring Pakistan. Flaying Pakistan and "its terror-manufacturing apparatus", the Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Ghulam Nabi Azad, said the Indian security forces were fully equipped to counter the "evil designs" of the Pakistani establishment. Azad said India will resist all moves to violate its borders, threaten its territorial integrity or jeopardise the security of the citizens. Congress deputy leader in the Rajya Sabha, Anand Sharma, said the terror attack in Punjab was a result of "intelligence failure". "The terror attack is not only a security lapse on the border but also a failure of intelligence agencies," Sharma told the media. Sharma said the government should reveal what assurances Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif gave to India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi at their meeting in Ufa in Russia in June. "On what assurance and understanding did the prime minister issue a joint statement after their meeting in Russia," he asked. Former Punjab chief minister and Congress parliamentarian from Amritsar, Capt Amarinder Singh, said the terror attack was a matter of grave concern as it was the first such incident in the recent past. Offering his support to the Punjab government for maintaining peace, Amarinder Singh said there was no doubt about the perpetrators of this attack and the people supporting them. The former chief minister said the pattern of the attack was similar to the earlier ones when terrorists infiltrated from across the border and attacked police stations in Samba and Kathua in Jammu and Kashmir. |
