Security forces apprehend LeT militant from Sopore
Accused handed over grenades to slain Pakistani militant

BARAMULLA, July 29: A joint team of Army and Police apprehended a LeT militant in a Vehicle Check Post established near Channakhan, Sopore in Baramulla district of North Kashmir on Tuesday.
A senior police official said that an active militant of Lashkar-e Toiba (LeT) was apprehended by a joint team of Army and Police in Sopore town.
"Based on a specific intelligence input regarding the movement of a LeT militant in village Sopore, a joint Vehicle Check Post was established by Army and JKP in the early hours of July 28," said the police official.
He said that during the operation, the joint team of 22 Rashtriya Rifles Unit and JKP successfully apprehended a LeT militant along with Chinese Pistol and three live rounds.
The apprehended militant of LeT was later identified as Ubaid Tariq Untoo (Faris) S/O Tariq Ahmad Untoo R/O Kralteng Sopore of Baramulla district. The LeT militant is the opne who according to police handed over two hand grenades to under trial prisoner in a jacket in the court premises of Sopore town.
A case has been registered in Police Station Tarazoo under First Information Report (FIR) 77/2015 U/S 302, 307 Ranbir Penal Code (RPC) and 304 Explosive Substance Act.
DIG Police, North Kashmir range Garib Dass told Early Times that a joint team of Army and Police apprehended an active militant of LeT outfit in Sopore town on July 28.
"LeT militant was active in Sopore town from past several months, he is the main accused in Sopore blast which took place in a Police Cab near Hygam Sopore on June 20, in which a Pakistani militant Waheed Noor got killed and one police constable martyred besides injuries to four policemen," said DIG.
It is pertinent to mention here that on June 20, an under trial Pakistani prisoner and a cop were killed and four policemen were also injured when a cab they were travelling in caught fire near Hygam village of Baramulla district.
The police vehicle had gone to Sopore from central jail Srinagar, along with a under trial Pakistani prisoner to produce him before the court in Sopore town.
