In attempt to rape case, accused remanded to 10-day police custody

Kishtwar, July 29: Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Kishtwar, today send the accused, who had allegedly made an attempt to rape a 5th class student yesterday, to 10-day police custody.
Kishtwar police party led by incharge Police Post Hidyal Deepak Bharti today produced the accused Surjeet Kumar Shan son of Ishar Das Shan resident of Shan Mohallah Kishtwar in the court of CJM Kishtwar in the afternoon and demanded the police custody of the accused for further investigation.
After going through diary and detail of the case, CJM Kishtwar Balbir Lal Jaiswal remanded the accused to 10 days police custody.
The accuse was booked by the police in FIR No 123/2015 under sections 363/376/511 RPC register at police station Kishtwar.
According to reliable sources, the accused was earlier also allegedly involved in a case of the similar nature.
It is pertinent to mention that the incident took place on 28-07-2015 when the victim, a student of 5th class was returning home from school after the schools were closed in the morning on account of death of former President of India APJ Abdul Kalam as after noticing the minor girl walking alone, the accused followed her and tried to overpower her at an isolated place in order to commit the rape on her, but due to the brave effort of one woman who after listing the hue and cry of the minor raised the alarm and started pelting stones on the accused who later escape from the spot but was overpowered by the police and local people who assembled in large number after coming to know about the incident.
Several political and social activists today condemn the alleged incident and demanded stern action against the accused person.
Former Vice President Municipal Committee Kishtwar Nusrat Farooq Baghwan in a statement issued today said that such cases need to be dealt with iron hands.
She demanded strengthening of security in and around educational institutions where girl students were seeking education and also urged upon the school management of girl schools to inform the parents in case the schools were closed before the scheduled time so that parents of minor girls could reach the schools to take the custody of their daughters which will ensure their safety.
She said that in case the school management did not inform the parents, the staff member or any other employee of the school should accompany the girl child upto her home.
