Early Times Report

Kishtwar, July 29: The people of village Sirgwari and its adjoining areas joined by the people of Kishtwar District today held a strong protest at Kishtwar against the high handedness of police and Assistant Commissioner Revenue (ACR) Kishtwar on women in Sirgwari village yesterday as a result of which at least five women were injured.
As per the details available with "Early Times", after night long protest at village Sirgwari, the people in large number today assembled outside the office of Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar and raised slogans against ACR Kishtwar Dr. Khalid Malik who yesterday ordered use of police force against the villagers opposing change of alignment of Shiv Nagar-Srawan road that can threaten the lives and property of the people living in and around village Sirgwari.
The agitating people allege that the controversial ACR Kishtwar having the backing of local ruling BJP Minister not only committed atrocities on the poor villagers himself and through police, but also outraged the modesty of 65 year old widow and also used abusive language with women.
The agitating people alleged corruption behind the change in alignment favoring the contractor and added that even court while disposing off the stay directed the concerned agency to stick to the basic alignment and to ensure the safety of the property and lives of the people of Sirgwari village.
After four hour long negotiation between police, District administration and agitating people, the protestors agreed to lift the road blockade outside DC Office Kishtwar.
As per the agreement between the administration and agitating people, Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Mohammad Javed Khan constituted a committee headed by ADC Kishtwar Mohammad Hanief Malik to will visit the spot along with incharge Superintending Engineer PMGSY Mohammad Ashraf Gilkar and others and verify the public allegations and concern shown by the people. DC Kishtwar directed PMGSY official to access the spot on technical ground and submit a feasibility report to him with further direction to ensure the safety of the lives and property of the poor villagers.
It is pertinent to mention that ACR Kishtwar Dr. Khalid Hussain Malik along with police and contractor of the PMGSY rushed to the disputed spot and tried to help the contractor to start the work stopped by the villagers in his presence as a result of which large number of people from Sirgwari village assembled at the spot and objected the move of ACR Kishtwar on the pretext that change of alignment will put the lives and property of the villagers at risk.
