Why did Vohra skip oath ceremony of new PSC members? | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, July 29: Appointment of new members for J&K Public Service Commission (PSC) has purportedly not been to the liking of Governor N N Vohra who avoided the oath taking ceremony of the newly appointed panel. Sources said the disliking of Vohra was based on credible inputs received by the Raj Bhawan about the nominees, particularly one official who in the past has been accused of having leaked sensitive information on construction of temples in Kashmir, which triggered street protests. Sources said though the official belongs to a family affiliated to National Conference, he subscribes to the thought of a religious group-Jamiat Ahlihadith-which promotes Wahhabi thought of puritan Islam. Sources claimed that the official in question has been rewarded with the key position despite Governor's opposition. They said the Governor is understood to have been insisting on formation of a search committee, which would nominate probables in the ratio of 1:3 and out of which an apical selection committee headed by Chief Minister with opposition leader in the Assembly and Speaker Assembly as its members could select the final list for approval by the cabinet and finally by the Governor. "This was to be as per a procedure recommended by the Supreme Court but was spurned by the coalition government and forced its way with the panel," the sources said. "Finally the Governor is understood to have approved the list only after taking all requisite clearance certificates from the Chief Secretary who is understood to have been under tremendous pressure of the government to bail out all the nominees," said an official of the General Administration Department. |
