Early Times Report
Jammu, July 30: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) high command has taken a serious note of the state BJP leaders messing up the AIIMS issue in Jammu region, sources told Early Times on Thursday.
They said the BJP high command is annoyed with the state leaders for not being able to tackle the situation. "High command believes that BJP leaders should have taken the Coordination Committee, spearheading the ongoing agitation for AIIMS in Jammu region, in loop as soon as it was constituted. Initially BJP leaders remained indifferent towards this committee. After the agitation gained momentum and Jammu observed complete shut down on two occasions, the BJP leadership woke up from the deep slumber," sources said.
They said "The Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh entered into negotiations with the AIIMS Coordination Committee without taking the party high command into confidence. He (Singh) gave a written assurance to AIIMS CC on June 20 that Jammu region would get the AIIMS within one month but that didn't happen leaving Singh red faced."
Sources claimed that BJP high command has taken a serious note about Deputy CM not getting in touch with the central leadership before giving written assurance to AIIMS CC. "Even after giving the written assurance the Deputy CM slept over the issue and did not make any effort to convince the high command about how important AIIMS is for the Jammu region," they added.
Sources said that failure of the Deputy CM to hold Jammu together and address the issues related to Jammu region from where party won most of the seats has not gone well with the party top brass. "A few BJP leaders sitting in New Delhi want Nirmal Singh out for keeping high command in dark and giving false commitment to the people of Jammu," they claimed.
Insiders revealed that Deputy Chief Minister failing to keep up his commitment has embarrassed him.
"Had (Singh) Deputy CM taken up the matter of AIIMS with the party high command more vigorously there were no reasons for party high command to turn down the genuine demand of the people of Jammu," sources added.
They said as rumours about axe may fall on Nirmal Singh are making rounds a few BJP leaders from Jammu and Kashmir have started lobbying for the post. "One of the BJP leaders has assured the party high command that if he is appointed as the Deputy Chief Minister he would ensure that AIIMS CC calls off the agitation within one week," sources added.
They said, "Deputy Chief Minister instead of demanding AIIMS for the Jammu region is trying to save his chair and is making hectic efforts to ensure that he remains in the office."
The BJP high command, insiders said, wants state leaders to ensure that ongoing agitation for AIIMS in the Jammu region is called off and the people who voted for the party are taken into the confidence. "The lackadaisical attitude of the Jammu based BJP leaders has hit the party's image. Party is committed to fulfill the genuine demands and aspirations of the people. The state party leaders cannot sit over the burning issues they have to take people and the party's top leadership into confidence and move ahead," they added.
