Early Times Report POONCH, July 31: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Poonch under the patronage of Directorate of Extension, SKUAST-Jammu organized two days long vocational training on value added products of fruit and vegetables at fruit preservation and canning unit Poonch. The training programme was attended by more than thirty boys and girls from every nuke and corner of district of Poonch. Welcoming the participants, Dr Ajay Gupta, SMS-Agronomy, highlighted the importance of various fruit and vegetable in human nutrition. He also briefed about various activities and schemes of KVK for the benefit of youth of the area. During the training programme, lectures and practical demonstration about various preservation techniques of fruits and vegetables were given by Dr Muzafar Mir, Scientist, Fruit Science, KVK, Poonch. He demonstrated various preservation techniques viz., preservation by high temperature, low temperature, chemical preservatives, fermentation and preservation by carbonation and irradiation. The participants were briefed about the importance of preservation to overcome the problems of rotting of surplus fruit and vegetables during the peak season as most of the fruits and vegetables have short shelf life. Chief Horticulture officer Poonch, RK Koul, also participated in the training programme, while interacting with the participants he requested to the local youth to take maximum benefit from such type of skill based training programme and praised the role of KVK Poonch for organizing such programmes for the benefit of rural youth. |
