'Arrogant BJP leader compelled Nadda to make ambiguous announcement'
AIIMS ROW

Early Times Report
Jammu, July 31: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders who called on the Union Health Minister JP Nadda in New Delhi on Friday ostensibly compelled Nadda to make an "ambiguous announcement" on setting up of AIIMS in Jammu and Kashmir so that agitation for AIIMS in Jammu region fizzles out, sources told Early Times on Friday.
They said a delegation of BJP leaders that met Nadda in Delhi yesterday informed him that agitation for AIIMS in Jammu region has become people's movement and if steps are not taken to address this issue it could spell doom for the party in the region.
Nadda, according to the sources, told the BJP delegation that it was not possible for him to make a statement on sanctioning of separate AIIMS for Jammu region as Parliament session is on. He assured the BJP leaders that announcement in this regard would be made after the Parliament session concludes but some BJP leaders were adamant that statement should be made on Thursday so that Coordination Committee, spearheading the agitation to seek full-fledged AIIMS for Jammu region, gets dissolved.
Sources said that Nadda tried his best to persuade the BJP leaders to apprise the people of Jammu about the ground situation and take the Coordination Committee into confidence. "A few BJP leaders agreed with Nadda but an arrogant BJP minister, who has hogged the headlines for all wrong reasons during the past five months, compelled the union health minister to give a statement and assured him that he would handle the Coordination Committee by hook or crook," sources claimed.
"Once you give the statement we will handle the CC and would inform the people that CC is creating confusion in the Jammu region at the behest of the opposition parties, including National Conference Congress and others," the Minister from JK is understood to have told the Union Health Minister.
The BJP leader, who remains in news for confronting people due to his abusive language every now and then, reportedly told the union health minister once he makes the announcement, the JK government would adopt an aggressive policy to deal with agitating members of the Coordination Committee.
"At the first instance Nadda refused to agree but the arrogant BJP leader did not relent and bragged about him (the BJP leader) being an expert of Jammu affairs," sources added.
They said that Nadda unwillingly made an "ambiguous announcement" to get rid of the BJP leader, who was doing all the talking.
Pertinently, Union Health Minister J P Nadda on Thursday had said: "The Health Ministry is setting up an AIIMS in Jammu and Kashmir and will provide similar facilities of AIIMS in both Jammu and Kashmir regions."
"The NDA government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is committed to provide healthcare facilities for all regions. And we are committed to balanced regional growth when it comes to healthcare facilities," Nadda had said.
However, Nadda's statement backfired as the AIIMS Coordination Committee, an amalgam of over 70 organisations, spearheading the agitation for setting up of AIIMS in Jammu region, rejected the idea to split AIIMS into two. The CC called on the people of the Jammu region to observe a 72-hour shut down from July 31 onwards and remain firm on their demand.
The BJP leader, who had assured Nadda, that he would handle Coordination Committee, has gone into tizzy as the move has backfired.
Health Minister avoids questions
Arrogance of BJP leaders came to fore on Friday during the press conference when the JK Health Minister tried to gag voice of those media men who were trying to ask genuine question regarding AIIMS in Jammu region.
Furthermore the BJP workers misbehaved with agitating members of ACC at Kachi Chowni.
