BARAMULLA, Aug 1: Day after militants attacked police party at Mirgund Pattan, in Baramulla district, Security was heightened across north Kashmir amidst high alert and intense frisking on Saturday. According to police sources, a police party of Police station Pattan, had put up a naka at Mirgund on Friday late evening, after receiving information of militants in the area. Police party headed by SHO Pattan Inspector Mohammad Saleem Mir, signaled a Tavera vehicle bearing registration no ((JK01Q-8792) to stop near Mirgund where naka check point was erected, when two unidentified militants opened indiscriminate fire at them near Mirgund Pattan in north Kashmir's Baramulla district on Friday late evening resulting in injuries to three police personnel. SHO Pattan Inspector Mohammad Saleem Mir and other three persons, including his PSO Dilshad Ahmad, Constable Manzoor Ahmad and driver of the private vehicle Hilal Ahmad Gojri of Pattan were injured. While the injured were evacuated to different hospitals, the militants abandoned the vehicle. However taking the advantage of late evening, they managed to flee from the spot. The Station House Officer (SHO) was shifted to military hospital Srinagar, while the constable and the driver were admitted to JVC Bemina and SMHC hospital in Srinagar. Meanwhile DIG north Kashmir Range, Gareeb Dass told Early Times that two policemen and the civilian driver were injured in the attack. DIG said that soon after the incident the entire area was cordoned off by police and 2 RR of army to track down the fleeing attackers, according to him that all the entry and exit points of the Srinagar-Baramulla highway have been put on alert. Initial investigation revealed that the gunmen had boarded the vehicle from Baramulla district towards Srinagar, as soon as the vehicle reached Mirgund they were stopped by Police naka party near the naka point Mirgund, militants opened fired on them, resulting in the injuries to three police personnel, DIG added. Meanwhile it is learnt from official sources that, Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayed visited the Army Hospital in Srinagar to enquire about the health of the police personnel who were injured in a late night attack on Friday by militants on a police party near Mirgund Pattan. |
