Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 1: Top government officials made a desperate attempt on Saturday evening to persuade the AIIMS Coordination Committee, spearheading the agitation to seek full-fledged AIIMS for Jammu region, to call off its agitation. Sources told Early Times that top officials comprising Divisional Commissioner Jammu,Pawan Kotwal, IGP Jammu Danesh Rana, IGP Armed Shafkat Watali, DIG Jammu Ashkoor Wani, DC Jammu Simrandeep Singh met the members of the AIIMS Coordination Committee including Chamber of Commerce President Rakesh Gupta, T S Wazir and others at PWD guest house at Gandhi Nagar here. Officials, according to the sources, told CC members that strike was hitting the common masses and they should call it off. The CC members are understood to have told the officials that central government should announce separate AIIMS for Jammu with a separate Director. They also demanded that police should release the members of the AIIMS CC arrested during protest. Regarding the further extension of the bandh, the AIIMS CC members said that the decision would be taken after the meeting which would be held on Sunday as AIIMS CC chairman Abhinav Sharma did not meet the government officials. |
