| BJP killing itself in Jammu | | What an irony! | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 1: Will the BJP leadership take cognizance of such slogans as "Kavinder Gupta, Amar Rahe", "Nirmal Singh, Amar Rahe", "Sat Sharma, Amar Rahe, Bali Bhagat, Amar Rahe", Rajesh Gupta, Amar Rahe" and "down with the BJP and take some concrete steps to recover its lost political space?
What an irony! The BJP that fought for the Jammu cause for decades is today working whole time to defeat it. To defeat it for what? To further pamper Kashmir, controversial Kashmiri leadership and help fanatics and separatists in the Valley to accomplish what they failed to accomplish after 1947. The single-point agenda of the Kashmiri leadership after 1947 was to get not just Kashmir separated from what it called Hindu and communal India, but the entire state of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh on the ground that the state was Muslim-majority, which could not be integrated with India socially, culturally, constitutionally, politically and administratively. The other component of the agenda of Kashmiri leadership was to establish its complete hegemony and domination over the polity and economy in the state and enslave Jammu and Ladakh.
Significantly, the BJP played the role of watchdog in Jammu & Kashmir and fought for the cause of Jammu as well as the nation in its own way. Of course, the BJP was never popular even in Jammu region because the nature of politics in the state was different from that of rest of the country. People rejected BJP election after election because they knew that BJP would never come into power in the state because of its peculiar demographic character and two-nation-like politics.
The BJP also believed that its role in state politics was one of opposition. It was only in 2008 that the BJP crossed the double-digit number in Jammu region which returns 37 members to the assembly. It won 11 seats and those who returned to assembly repeatedly disappointed people of Jammu region because they repeated cross-voted during the Rajya Sabha and Legislative Council elections to ensure the defeat of their own candidates and ensure the victory of NC, Congress and PDP candidates, as also because some of them played dirty politics. The party leadership did expel from the party seven MLAs for anti-party activities but it turned out to be an exercise undertaken to hoodwink and mislead people of Jammu region. It readmitted all of them a few months before the 2014 assembly elections in the state.
It was only in 2014 that the BJP under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi broke all the records and captured 25 seats and became part of the coalition government in March 2015. Ever since then, the BJP has been playing double role: It is helping the PDP implement its Kashmir-centric and essentially separatist-friendly agenda and it is systematically and ruthlessly destroying Jammu region and its distinct identity and jeopardizing the legitimate rights and interests of people of Jammu region, including refugees of all varieties. That's the reason the people of Jammu region have been describing agenda of alliance as an "agenda of subversion" and "a new charter of bondage".
The AIIMS Coordination Committee (ACC), which has been spearheading movement for the establishment of AIIMS in Jammu for more than two months now, was right when it on Friday said: "Today (July 31) the BJP even violated the sanctity of sacred Pandit Prem Nath Dogra Bhawan where its activists acted as hooligans and ruffians. The frustration and desperation of BJP has reached to such a point that they pelted stones on the rally of AIIMS CC in which large number of youth, women and elderly people participated. The BJP activists even snatched the tear gas guns from some of the police personnel and themselves fired teargas shells at the rally. As if the repeated lies of BJP were not enough, the BJP chose to hoodwink public by distributing `Ladoos' and performing Bhangras over what they considered as the defeat of Jammu people and victory of their betrayal. They even forgot that yesterday was the day national mourning and last rites of former President of India were being performed. The people of Jammu region need to prepare for a decisive battle with the political establishment hell bent upon imposing a state of slavery on the nationalist people of Jammu". The ACC was also right when it asserted that the Friday massive bandh across Jammu region was the "last nail in the BJP's coffin".
The fact of the matter is that the BJP is alienating the people of Jammu region and killing itself by adopting a policy which it all along opposed. Even if the BJP announces a full-fledged AIIMS for Jammu, the BJP will never win over the trust of the people. Will the BJP leadership take cognizance of such slogans as "Kavinder Gupta, Amar Rahe", "Nirmal Singh, Amar Rahe", "Sat Sharma, Amar Rahe, Bali Bhagat, Amar Rahe", Rajesh Gupta, Amar Rahe" and "down with the BJP"? and take some concrete steps to recover its lost political space? |
