Jammu, Aug 3: At least 45 posts, including those of doctors and nurses, are vacant in district hospital Poonch for many years. The hospital has a sanctioned strength of six senior consultants-Gynecology, Paediatrics, Obstetrics, Ophthalmology, Anesthetist and Ortho-but only an ophthalmologist is present there. Also, the government had sanctioned 33 Medical Officer (MO) posts to the hospital but only 11 posts have been filled so far. Moreover, out of 20 sanctioned posts of senior staff nurses, only two are in position, sources said, adding that in the absence of proper staff, patient care has taken a backseat in the hospital. Arshid Ahmed, a local resident, said, "People of Poonch have been facing many difficulties during medical emergencies. The district hospital itself needs 'treatment' at present."Chief Medical Officer, Poonch, Dr. Mumtaz Bhatti was not available for comment. |
