Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 3: At a time when the agitating people of Jammu under the banner of the AIIMS Coordination Committee (ACC) were holding a peaceful dharna near Tawi Bridge and denouncing the BJP for its acts of betrayal and politics of deceit, bluff and falsehood, cornered and roundly denounced BJP leaders and ministers were holding a meeting at Eden Garden, Shakti Nagar, Jammu, not to discuss ways and means for conciliating the enraged and furious people, but to motivate the party cadres to speared all across Jammu to educate the public opinion about what the BJP did to appreciate the sentiments of the people.
After the meeting, the state BJP president Jugal Kishore Sharma, and former NC and PDP man and presently chief spokesperson of the party, Sunil Sethi, addressed a press conference amid tight security. Instead of admitting that the BJP bungled and mishandled the whole issue, they yet again took recourse to white lies. They said that the Modi Government had already sanctioned an AIIMS for Jammu and there was no justification for the ACC to continue its struggle. They also accused the Congress, the NC and the Panthers Party of creating confusion in the minds of people of Jammu region for political gains.
"Confusion is being created by political parties like NC, Congress and Panthers over the settled issue and further clarified that the sanctioned AIIMS will have separate Director, equal number of faculties, equal and every kind of infrastructure and teaching staff and number of seats at par as that of AIIMS Kashmir," they said, and added the "statement of Union Health Minister JP Nadda that his ministry will provide similar facilities of AIIMS in Jammu and Kashmir regions, is being misinterpreted and exploited by some political parties".
The BJP leaders didn't speak truth; they only lied when they said what they said about the issue of AIIMS. As was expected, the ACC leadership, which was keeping a close watch on the activities of the BJP as well as its moves, came out with a befitting response to expose the BJP and set the record straight. Addressing joint press conference, chairman of the ACC Abhinav Sharma, along with many ACC members, including six spokespersons, set the record straight and called the BJP bluff.
Sharma, inter-alia, said: "The utter failure of the untrustworthy and mischievous elements to make mockery of the sentiments of people of Jammu region and not announcing a full-fledged AIIMS for the region has forced the AIIMS Coordination Committee to extend the Bandh by another three days up to August 5…The AIIMS CC had hoped that the massive response to the bandh call would make the insensitive BJP to read the writing on wall, but it was not to be. The BJP yet again betrayed the people of Jammu region by taking recourse to white lies calculated aimed at hoodwinking the people".
Further clearing the confusion being created by the anti-Jammu BJP, the ACC chairman said: "The AIIMS Act does not allow what the Union Health Minister J P Nadda tweeted on July 30th and what the cornered BJP Ministers here in J&K are trying to make the people of Jammu understand. No AIIMS in India can ever have two Presidents, two Vice-Chancellors, two Governing Bodies and two Directors. What they are saying is the gross violation of the Act and an act of criminal disinformation. Nowhere in India has the AIIMS been divided into two parts, two campuses because it will defeat the very purpose of the Institution," he said, adding that the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (Amendment) Act 2012 clearly says that to establish an AIIMS in any state, it is mandatory to issue a notification clearly specifying the place and the state where AIIMS is to be established. Breaking AIIMS Institution into parts and dispersing the parts in various parts of the state defeat the very purpose of Medical Research Institution," said Sharma, adding that AIIMS has three specific components-Research, Medical Education and Healthcare facilities. The BJP Ministers have only made a mockery of themselves and exposed their abject ignorance of the issue…The competent authorities in New Delhi should make a simple announcement and issue a notification as required by the Act that they shall establish AIIMS in Jammu in the current financial year without indulging in vague and misleading statements. This is must to defuse the potentially dangerous situation in the region".
The manner in which and the promptness with which the ACC came out with a concrete response to the BJP's misinformation campaign only suggested that the ACC is well-equipped and that it has cogent reasons to expose the BJP and educate the public about the evil intentions of the BJP.
Earlier in the morning, the mortally afraid BJP leadership asked the party cadres to meet everyone in Jammu to counter what it called "misinformation campaign launched by the ACC at the behest of the Congress" by telling them that the Government of India under pressure from the local BJP leadership had already sanctioned AIIMS for Jammu. Will any BJP worker dare to venture out of his house or the highly protected party headquarters when the angry people of Jammu are after the Deputy Chief Minister, or for that matter all BJP ministers, all BJP MPs, all BJP MLAs and all BJP MLCs? No BJP worker would ever dare to do what the BJP leadership asked them to do, particular after what the ACC supporters did on August 2 to Industry Minister Chander Prakash Ganga near Tawi Bridge. It would be better if the BJP leaders themselves come out of their houses or party headquarters and face the people, instead of asking their party workers to do the "dirty" job on their behalf.
The fact of the matter is that the BJP today stands doomed, condemned and completely isolated.
