BJP ministers unite to sabotage Jammu's cause
8/5/2015 12:18:52 AM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 4: It is too well-known that the BJP ministers in the Mufti-led coalition government never worked in unison and that they were not really in talking terms. It is also too well-known that Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh bore a grudge against Forest Minister Bali Bhagat because the latter tried to become Deputy Chief Minister on the ground that Nirmal Singh lost elections thrice and he won the election twice. "Even today, Bali Bhagat and Health Minister Lal Singh are", according to insiders, "trying their level best to get Nirmal Singh out of the government so that they are able to fulfill their dream of becoming number two in the Mufti government". Besides, it is also two well-known that Industries Minister Chander Prakash Ganga and PHE Minister Sukhnandan Chaudhary, like other BJP ministers, also never worked in tandem. The fact of the matter is that all the BJP ministers never saw eye to eye with other after the formation of the coalition government. Indeed, they were a divided house. For them, the party and party cadres were just tools they needed for furthering their own vested interests.
However, it is the ongoing agitation in Jammu region for the setting up a full-fledged AIIMS in the region that has - apart from making the party leadership in the state has united all the BJP ministers against those in the region who helped the BJP create a history of sorts by winning a record number of 25 out of 37 seats in the Assembly. The BJP ministers have forgotten their differences for the time being and formed what the critics of the BJP call "anti-Jammu front to damage the region and the people it houses and ensure that the ongoing movement collapses". They are holding meetings on daily basis to evolve strategies aimed at killing the Jammu cause. So much so, they are directing their handful of supporters to force the people to open their business establishments. Ministers like Lal Singh and Bali Bhagat personally performed and supervised the "dirty job" on Monday.
Even Gandhi Nagar MLA Kavinder Gupta, who is holding the constitutional position of Speaker on the Assembly, "contacted" many business leaders and "personally talked to them" to seek their support for defeating the ongoing movement overlooking the fact that he denigrated the constitutional office by indulging in anti-Jammu political games. Many leading businessmen and presidents of various business and transport associations told this correspondent on the condition of anonymity that "Kavinder Gupta talked to them and sabotage the bandh". The conduct of Jammu West and Jammu East MLAs Sat Sharma and Rajesh Gupta was no different. They also with the help police tried their best to persuade shopkeepers to open their shops. It is a different story that the business community, transporters and others rebuffed them and showed them their rightful place by refusing to walk into their "anti-Jammu" trap.
That the people of Jammu rebuffed the BJP ministers, BJP Speaker and BJP MLAs on the fourth day and fifth day of massive bandh could be seen from the nature and magnitude of the bandh on Monday and today. The AIIMS Coordination Committee was right when it on Tuesday said that the massive bandh in Jammu region is a "warning signal" for the BJP. But the question is: Will the BJP appreciate the nature of the movement? The answer appears to be no. Indeed, the BJP is in a self-destruct mode.
