Early Times Report

KUPWARA, Aug 24: The Sub district Hospital Tangdhar, 80 kilometres from district Headquarter Kupwara lacks modern facilities like digital X-ray, ECG, Ultrasonography (USG). The patients are forced to visit other hospitals of Kashmir.
Authoritative sources told Early Times that, "27 MBBS posts were sanctioned for Tangdhar medical block in which only six doctors are in position while as 21 posts of MBBS doctors are still lying vacant.
Abdul Majid, a resident said that, "There is a scarcity of machines over here. Because of this, the people of this border area are facing a lot of difficulties. We have to go all the way to Kupwara or Srinagar, even to get an ordinary medical test done. We request the Mufti led government to facilitate the hospital with the well equipped machines and required staff.
But unfortunately, the previous government has left us in darkness, given miseries and has forced this hospital to lag behind in development of health sector in comparison to other well equipped hospitals of the valley, said a local.
A senior medico said, "If we have to work 24*7 then we need modern machines, like Automatic Analyser Machines (ANM) for Bio-chemistry and Haematology tests and 300 mm digital X Ray, 500 MA USG machines. There is shortage of medicines, fluids, drip sets and other requirements which was need of the hour.
In Tangdhar medical block there are 8 sub centres, 35 PHCs and SDH and more 4 ambulances were sanctioned for this block.
Dr Mohammad Yousf Dar, former Block Medical Officer (BMO) told early times that, "There is a shortage of doctors which is one of the biggest problems in Sub District Hospital (SDH) Tangdhar. We have decades old machines over here, we don't have modern USG machine, Digital X-Ray, ECG, and other required machines and staff strength is not enough.
"I resigned from the post of BMO, because many times in past I send a requisition to the government that I need at least four doctors, like physician, surgeon, anaesthetist, and gynaecologist but they never paid there due attention to the already made requests, said Dr Yousf.
Hospital needs equipments, sufficient and well efficient staff only then patients will not move from their respective places to the other parts of valley for better treatment, he added.
